ABOUT US

BVSW Debate is one of the leading debate programs in the area and has earned many local, regional and national awards (including 15 State of Kansas Championships!).  Although being the youngest  of the Blue Valley schools, BVSW has held both National Champion titles as well as, Regional Champions, and State Champions.

The core of competitive high school debate is to learn how to examine every side of important and controversial issues in an atmosphere of reasoned argument and respectful discourse. Students put forth considerable effort and time on research to succeed in this intellectual activity. The benefits they accrue as a result are numerous, including rigorous critical thinking skills, academic achievement, mental and emotional maturity, and occupational preparation.

Southwest Debate grads have a tremendous success record for attending strong academic institutions. From local state schools like KU and K-State to Nationally ranked programs like Dartmouth, USC, Perdue and Harvard Law.
